In Da' Hood

Pi's love of Etsy is no secret. My favorites section is filled with things that she has tagged for her doll wish list. One of the things on the wish list was THIS pattern for a knit doll hoodie. In a fit of insanity, I bought the pattern, hoping that the "easy" label was the truth.

I started on Sunday night and took the opportunity to finish it on Monday, since I was home with her.

The pattern was easy enough for a newbie like me to follow, though you can see that my stitches are still wonky and lets not even talk about my seaming. I suck at seaming crochet too, so this didn't shock me. ha! The most intimidating part was making the V neck, and even that wasn't very hard.

I went up 2 needle sizes to get gauge and even so, it is still a little tight on the doll. Since the hoodie stretches, its not too big a problem and Pi doesn't care about that. She excited that I was able to make it in the first place.

The good news is that I finished it. The bad news is that she wants me to make another one! I know this is doll sized, but can this count as my first knit garment? Even if it does seem like I'm cheating, haha!

Absolutely it counts! You did a great job for just getting into knitting. I haven't even tackeled a true garment yet, cuz I don't think fingerless gloves count. Well done! You inspire me :-)

Wow, you're really coming along well with the knitting - very impressive! I'm lousy at seaming crochet too. I try to avoid patterns that involve seaming, especially ones where I have to sew in sleeves.

It must be awesome to have a mom who can just whip stuff up like that!

Wow that looks great! I agree with Laura, your knitting is very impressive, but so is your crocheting. ;)

I too love the sweater patterns from bella bambina, how do you size them? I'm a loose crocheter, what size hook would you reccommend to make a 6 month size in cotton?

Hi, it's Mona from Knittipina. This is a cute doll outfit! Congrats! If you wanted to adjust the knitted sizing, Stitch N Bitch Nation the book has a couple of pages on how to make items given your existing yarn and needle size (different gauge). It has worked for me - I knit occasionally for my niece who is growing faster than I can knit.
