So much for no yarning

Remember how I said I was going to read and watch movies this weekend and not touch a hook? Well, not much reading has gotten done, I have watched a sickening amount of Lifetime/Hallmark movies and have not touched a hook. But the yarn is not far. I've been practicing my knitting.

I worked on this little swatch all day yesterday. I knit, I frogged, I purled, I cursed, repeat. I'm finally getting satisfied with my tension, though there are mistakes and it needs a lot of practice.

You'd think I'd be satisfied to keep working on this, but no. I got bored of that little swatch very quickly and started THIS late last night (like 1 am late). The pattern said "perfect for a first project" so I said hell with it and jumped in.

By this evening (and 4 or so more cheesy movies), I've got one arm warmer complete. Its riddled with mistakes, but I am pretty damn proud of myself. Now I need to find the courage to start the second one.

I think I really might like this knit thing. Except for binding off...that was getting-drilled-at-the-dentist kinda scary. So whaddya think? Is there hope for me and the sticks?

Knitter friends...are there any beginner friendly patterns you would suggest?

I think you are doing beautifully with your knitting. I'm a little nuts, but I think whatever you work on should be something you would like to keep for yourself! That's always worked for me when I'm learning something new. That's why I have so many knit/crochet *things*. I make the first one for myself, figure the pattern out, and then make lots for other folks! By the time I'm done with number 3 or 4, I've got the pattern down and have figured out all the hangups. I hope! Love the handwarmers. I've been eyeing a pair for myself.

My MIL is a knitter and she's been knitting all weekend! It all looks the same to me. Hard.

You're doing a great job there! Anyone would be proud to have that as their first project.

Don't fret about "mistakes". As a friend of mine always says, there are no mistakes. Just new stitch patterns. :)

Christina,

I think that looks great! I can't even figure out how to cast on in knitting, let alone do any stitches, so I'm pretty impressed with your having made a whole arm warmer!

Wonderful job! I agree, binding off is intimidating, but you've obviously got it! I was scared of decreasing/increasing, but it's really not so bad once you actually do it.

Cables are WAY cool to do, and so easy (but they look so complicated). You might wanna give them a whirl for a real boost!

Wow, very good! I think your doing fantastic and that 'first project' likes great for a beginner. I'm still in the beginning states of knitting too so I know how frustrating it is. I've done the same things as you. :)

It looks great! Personally, I did a lot of dishcloths at first (cotton yarn, 20 stitches - 40 rows) It doesn't matter how they look, they all clean the same, and you can practice all kinds of stitches!

It came out great! Thanks for the link and I can't wait to see the final results!

That looks great! you can certainly do the other side!

I think the best beginner projects are scarves, that's what my Grandmama had me learn on. You can pick any stitch or stitch pattern you want to get better at and then go for it. Then gauge isn't important and you can relax and get good!
