Bunny hat gone wrong...

In the new Crochet! issue, there is a pattern for a bunny hat for a 6-12 month old baby. I decided to make this hat for the same cousin who I made the Through Any Window Baby Blanket.

I decided I didn't need to check gauge. I mean, how hard is it to eyeball a baby sized hat, right? Yeah, mmm....k.

When I finsihed the hat, I thought it looked a little big, but figured it'd be ok. Not so much. It fits my over-sized noggin.

So now this hat will be part of Pi's Halloween costume this coming October. She's pretty happy...she got an unexpected bunny hat.

Awww it's cute though! :o) Thanks for commenting my blog! I have had my sewing machine for almost 10 years now, the same machine! A couple of years ago my mom showed me how to sew with a pattern. Then, while doing these cabbage patch clothes recently, I figured out how to make the seams look good with the straight stitch and back over it with the zig zag stitch. All I can say is I love my kenmore (from sears) sewing machine, I can see the bobbin thread through the top (not on the bottom hidden somewhere like a lot of machines I see today), so if something is wrong with the thread, I can see if its from the bobbin or not.

Anyhow, I would recommend maybe finding some online videos (are there any? I dont know...) and teaching yourself to sew if you dont have classes you can go to (I never went to any classes, though I did take home ec in the 8th grade!).

Hmm, maybe I should borrow my parent's video camera and record myself sewing, teaching it just the same way I am teaching my 9 yr old how to sew! She's currently practicing her straight stitches.

Anyhow, what's Piper's favorite character now?

Awww, you made a bunny hat too! Very cute! I love bunny costumes, but I could never get my daughter to wear one - she's almost 10, and would think she's too old for one, LOL!

LOL the good thing about it is now Pi has her a hat oh so cute. Sometimes we all make that gauge mistake I hate it sometimes. You will get it next time.

Oh Christina I started sewing when I was like 11 got my first sewing machine when I was 13 I started with a Singer love it, mainly I just started off show with purses, backpacks and worked my way up with clothes, I started off with a lot of recons. Like starting off with cutting my old shirts to make me a new one. So all I say is be practice and you can surely do it. I am still learning and been sewing for years so it does take time. If you want to try patterns start with small patterns like something like a pillow, things for the house. Patterns does help you a lot when you first learn. Best luck would love to see you start sewing.:) we both can get our sewing and crocheting on lol.

That's funny. At least your daughter loves it. I haven't made much from magazines yet but now I know to check my gauge. lol ;-)

Oh and Christina I wanted to tell you about my sewing machine. It is pricer than the cheap ones but it is so nice for newbies. It makes everything so easy and not so scary. It even threads the needle for you!

I love this machine and we saved up and I got it for my last b-day. I hope you are able to find the right machine for you. Cause in my opinion the machine makes all the difference.

It's cute! I think the trend allows for older girls to wear hats like that and not get weird looks right? SNB Nation had a kitty cat hat..so why not a bunny?

How cute! Now, why didn't we get to see a pic of you modeling it????

Thanks for all the advice on sewing machine guys! Ashley, I really like the one you showed me. I think I am going to start a piggy bank for spare change and see if I can save up for it by summertime.

Angela, no pic of me in it because my hair has been a wreck lately. Massively huge! LOL

I have totally done that before! One of my first gauge sensitive projects was a hat. Who knew that gauge does matter! This is why I stick to baby blankets. If it turns out too big, that's a plus.
I love the bunny hat. The tie and the pink center ears are so cute!
