Oh no!

Those are girl scout cookies, my friends. Over 120 boxes of them. Its like going to sleep and waking up in fatty heaven.

Tomorrow's weigh in is screwed and well...I'm ok with that! Very very ok in case you were wondering just how ok I was with that.

Sorry for the lack of actual content this week. Both of my grandfathers are in the hospital (2 separate hospitals to make things more complicated). One had knee replacement surgery and the other has kidney stones. We've been at the hospital visiting from the minute I get out of work until visiting hours are over (or until they kick us out for being there past visiting hours).

I'm going to spend the rest of tonight sorting cookies for the peeps who bought them, then crash into bed. Hopefully, I'll be back full force this weekend.

Tuesday's Tribute

Yet Another Jay and Deb Production.

Today's tribute is to something that keeps me sane, happy, and well...non-violent. My family will be eternally grateful for the calming effect these have on me.

If not for these, I would be a bigger witch than I normally am, especially when Aunt Flo is around. If you've been around long enough, you know that's normally 10-14 days if I'm lucky...more than 20 if I'm not. Thank you, thank you, dear Yodel, for being so wonderful and therapeutic.

You may be 9,846,534,765 calories each, forcing me to skip meals for 5 to 6 days just to enjoy you and you might be filled with animal fat creme, making vegetarians around the world cringe, but you're worth it Yodel. Our time together is just magical.

Stick you in the freezer and add a cup of coffee and well...let's just say that if I was a smoker, I'd need a cigarette when all was said and done.

Ahhh, that was good. :)

Back from the City of Brotherly Love

We got back late last night from Philly. I wish I had touristy pics for you, but we went to visit family and didn't do any sightseeing.

We were originally going to drive, but decided at the last minute to go Greyhound. While its nice to let someone else do the driving, it takes a lot longer to get to where you're going. For instance, we have an hour subway ride just to get to the Greyhound station. I don't mind the subway much, but some people who will not be named (Piper) aren't fans of the long ride.



My sister-in-law lives right on the Delaware River. Since the weather was pretty warm this weekend, we walked by the river and watched the geese. There are a ton of geese there and they're not afraid of people. My SIL said one of them sometimes walks right up to her and sits on her lap.



I had a feeling the bus knitting would go well when I saw that my needles matched the seat cushion fabric. It was like knitting mojo....totally meant to be.

Since the bus ride was long, I made a good chunk of progress on the feather and fan scarf. The scarf now measure 44 inches! Only 16 inches to go before its finished. I have hope that I can finish by this coming weekend.


That pink yarn is the lifeline I inserted. I'm not sure how I lived without it before.

For some reason, I have this crazy desire to try knitting in the round. You'd think I'd try to make a cable or something next, but my head keeps screaming ROUND ROUND. Hopefully, I can find a knit in the round beginner friendly pattern.

I'm starting to feel like Prince.

Why, you ask? Because of all the purple!

After the round ripple was finished, I started working on a layette set for the same co-worker since there was nearly an entire skein of the Bernat left over. The sweater is Kelly's sweater by Bella Bambina. I added shells on the sleeves to match the hat I was going to do. One day, I'll use another sweater pattern, but for now, I'm still really loving this one.

The hat is the Mesh Skull Cap by Chelle at Luv2Crochet. Fast, easy, and cute. I used some of the leftover boucle from the round ripple for the flower. Last, was a pair of quick MaryJanes that I found on Crochet Pattern Central.



I went through my bag of buttons and found 2 purple butterfly buttons. They fit perfectly into the buttonholes. It was meant to be. *snif* I get so emotional when it all goes together just right. :)





The only WIPs I have now are the baby bubble blanket that I won't have enough yarn for and the knit fan scarf. We're going on a short road trip to Philadelphia today. I'm hoping to make some good progress on my knit scarf since the trip is almost 2 hours each way.

You Spin me Right Round...

...baby, right round, like a record baby right round, right round. I totally dated myself by quoting that song, but you have to admit you like it. :)

I finished the purple round ripple I was working on a few days ago, but only got to taking the picture today. It measures 36" across and was soooo fast to finish. I love me some instant gratification. Nothing gets the creative juices flowing better than actually finishing a project.

Its made with Bernat super value in purple, Joann's rainbow boucle, and a J hook. I used Aggie May's pattern from Crochetville. You have to e-mail her directly for a copy of the pattern. Its worth the effort though, as the pattern is simple and has no problems laying flat, like some other RR patterns.




The purple is richer in person than it shows in the pic, but this was the best I could do with the drab winter light. The blanket went to a co-worker. I've got a sweater set in the works for the same co-worker.





I also finally sat down to figure out the frogging with my knit scarf. I inspected the stitches as best I could, determined where I thought a pattern repeat started, held my breath, said a prayer or 12, and let 'er rip. Pulling the needle out and frogging a few rows was scary. Like gained a few pounds on the scale type scary..aka really scary! It worked though and I was able to continue on with the pattern with no noticeable mistakes. Woot woot!

In the process of learning everything I could about frogging knitting, I discovered something called a lifeline. This could have saved me loads if trouble if I'd known about it before. Granted, it seems like common sense, but I don't always have that.


Also, I need help from you sewing peeps. I've been doing some research and I think I'd like to go with a Kenmore sewing machine. I didn't even realize Kenmore had sewing machine until SubwayHooker mentioned it. The reviews I've been reading have been better than for most Singers or Brothers I've been looking at. I don't want anything fancy, but don't want to go completely bottom of the barrel either. So I was thinking about THIS one.

Give me your opinions pretty please! I could use all the help I can get!

Tuesday's Tribute

Yet Another Jay and Deb Production.

Today's tribute is to the little person that makes my world go round. Just like anyone who has kids will know, your life changes the moment you find out you're expecting.

Piper came home with an assignment recently that shot me back in time, reminiscing about all the stages she has been through so far. Piper learned about timelines and was asked to make her own.

We chose a picture from each year of her life and she wrote a little blurb about each picture.



It was a lot of fun to look through all the (hundreds? thousands?) of pictures we have and tell stories about each one. Pi laughed her little butt off at some of the funny pics we have. Her favorite story was of the pic of her sitting on the coffee table sans diaper and how she peed all over the table right after I took the picture. No worries to any guests/future guests...I don't have the peed-on table anymore. :)



Creating this timeline with her made me appreciate her so much. I could feel my heart swell with pride as I looked through the photographic evidence of my baby growing up...all the milestones, the fun, the laughter, and oopsie moments. Her first haircut, trip to Disney, and first steps.



Pi has been the inspiration to make me a better person. When I thought I was too exhausted to work 2 jobs and go to college, her face is what kept me going. I wanted to be a good role model for her. I wanted to show her that hard work is worth it. I wanted her to know she was worth it. I was and am willing to do whatever it takes to take care of her and be there for her. I'll be her roadie, always.

Piper has shown me what it is to be selfless. She's the inspiration in everything I do. She loves me with no strings attached and I her. I love her unconditionally. The innocence and wonder that I see through her eyes is amazing.

There are no words that can accurately describe her, except to say she's my angel.

I Haz Internets

I've been trying to get on here for a few days but my Internet connection was out. The weather wasn't bad most of the weekend, so that's not the cause. The Internet just goes poof sometimes and I'm glad its back. You never realize how much you rely on it until its not available.

Speaking of weather, we had a doozy of a snowstorm last night into this morning. I'm not sure exactly how much we got, but it was definitely more than 6 inches this morning when I left for work.



I had an argument with myself about whether I should take a sick day and stay home. I actually am a little sick (not crazy bad though), so it would have been justifiable, but my brain screamed DEADLINE. So off I went.

NYC Public schools closed, which hasn't happened since 2004. Pi goes to private school, but its a rule that when the public schools close, so do private schools. Pi was haaaaappy. That's the understatement of the year, haha. She's talking about how she wishes it would snow more tonight, so she can have another snow day.

On last Friday's weigh-in, I didn't lose anything. I didn't gain anything either. I'm not upset though because I expected a gain. Don't ask me why I expected a a gain. Its a mystery, really. *whistles*



Those may or may not have been accompanied by chocolate chip cookies. heehee :)

I'm all done with the purple round ripple I started last week. I just need to get a picture. I love near instant gratification.
